Days of 47 Float Preview

On Tuesday I went with family to the Days of ‘47 Float Preview Party at the South Towne Expo Center. You could meet the creators and technicians behind the 2010 Days of ‘47 Parade floats and see how it all comes together. There was voting for your favorite float to win the “People’s Choice” or the “Children’s Choice” award. Also enjoy bands, clowns, and entertainment. Admission was … [Read more...]

West Bountiful City Independence Day Parade

US and Utah Flags

To preserve posts from a blog I closed down I have ported them to Rickety. So please enjoy a 4th July parade in January. Last year I went with family to watch the West Bountiful City Independence Parade. The theme was Our Heritage Past and Present. There were 60 entries but it didn't take very long for the parade to pass by. It was cold enough in the shade that my wife and brother-in-law moved … [Read more...]

Kaysville Independence Day Parade

Yesterday we watched the Kaysville / Fruit Heights Independence Day Parade. The weather was perfect, so cool. There were ominous dark clouds overhead but they didn't rain on our parade. Just before the parade started four F-16s from Hill Air Force Base flew low overhead to loud applause from the large crowd. Three of my children, Sarah, Paul, and Jake, were in the Davis High marching band when … [Read more...]

Brigham City Peach Days

Jill, Sarah, and I traveled to Brigham City yesterday for Peach Days. We were joined by Kent, Susan, Connie, Mark, Byron, and Robert. Peach days takes place the weekend after Labor day weekend. Much of the main street in the city is closed off to cars, and the festival is celebrated by a parade, a car show, a carnival, and other activities including the famous "Scuba Burger" which many Peach Day goers … [Read more...]

Bountiful Handcart Days

July 24th is Pioneer Day in Utah and a state holiday but for me it is work as usual. Yesterday I was musing about what to post for the 24th when my wife Jill asked me if I wanted to go to the Bountiful Parade. I said, "sure!" There is one thing about blogging and that is it gets you out of the house. There were a lot of marching bands in the parade and of course the biggest and best is the Davis … [Read more...]

Kaysville 4th July Parade

A blanket and chairs were left overnight on the parade route to save our place. Jill and I put up the canopy in the morning before the parade. Left to right, back to front are Mark, Connie, Sarah, Susan, Rick, Jill, Shauna, Byron, Daniel, and Paul. The day was hot but cooled down as the sky became overcast. We could have fared well without the canopy. Here are some photographs from the parade. … [Read more...]

West Bountiful Parade

It is time for the 4th July parades to begin. Today at 9am found Jill, Sarah, and I at West Bountiful. Kent and Susan had saved seats for us. From left to right in the photograph below are Rick (me), Kent, Jill, Sarah, Shauna, Mark, Connie, and Susan. Shauna had brought candy just in case we didn't like the parade offerings. There was also water but it wasn't needed as I think we had the coolest … [Read more...]
